Pastor John Scorgie and his wife, Cheryl, have been serving in full time pastoral work since May 1980. John was raised in Toronto and trained for the ministry at Ontario Bible College (Bachelor of Theology, 1978) and Ontario Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1981) – now named Tyndale University College and Seminary.
Cheryl was raised in northern Ontario. She is a school teacher who attended the University of Toronto (Bachelor of Arts, 1977) and Ontario Teacher Education College (Bachelor of Education, 1978). Over the years she has done full-time, part-time, and supply teaching.
John and Cheryl met in their home church in Scarborough, Ontario in 1972 and were married there in 1978. God has blessed them with three children – Joshua (1982), Christina (1985), and Maria (1988), and four grandchildren – Benjamin, Ezra, Bethany, and Josiah.
A ministry of teaching the Word of God, pastoral care, prayer, and administration are John’s primary areas of focus. Cheryl finds her greatest delight working with children, and serving in a variety of areas as a pastor’s wife.
In their free moments, you might find them camping, hiking, walking, biking, canoeing, reading, cross-country skiing, visiting family and friends, or getting to know this area of Ontario.
Their greatest joy is serving the Lord, something they have done since their mid-teens. Their vision for Fellowship Baptist Church in Cornwall is to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ, to build them up in their faith, and to equip the whole congregation for service to effectively impact others. May people of all ages come to know Jesus – Who He is and what He has done for humanity.
